Clean Energy Future

The primary source of greenhouse gas that causes global warming is fossil fuel – dirty coal, oil and gas. Reducing use of fossil fuels and petrochemical products now can begin bring the planet back into balance.

Fossil fuel emissions also pollute the air and water, with mercury and other toxins that damage our health. A study by the Environmental Law and Policy Center found that policies cutting global warming pollutants would also reduce the pollutants that cause acid rain and smog by 71 percent.

Steps national, state and local governments should take immediately include investing in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. Strengthening energy efficiency standards and building codes would also reduce use of fossil fuels for electricity.

Higher fuel economy standards for vehicles and incentives for building and buying hybrids and other fuel-efficient vehicles would reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and other toxins from motor vehicles.

Pursuing smart growth projects that reduce the need to drive and making ridesharing, bicycling, walking and mass transit easier could reduce driving and improve quality of life.

Let your representatives know that you want a Clean Energy Future with support for efficiency and renewable energy for a healthier, safer planet.
