Save a Tree- Stop Junk Mail
100 million trees are ground up each year to produce junk mail. Find something to write with, and I'll give you some tips on how to stop this non-sense. Almost half of the mail you receive is junk mail - that's mail that goes in the trash or recycling without being opened or read. Each of us receives more than 500 pieces of junk mail every year. That's four-and-a-half million tons of junk mail produced annually. There is a lot you can do to reduce the cost to the environment and save yourself some time.
To avoid receiving junk mail, don't enter sweepstakes or sign up for prizes. To remove your name from major sweepstakes lists, you need to contact three publishing companies: Publishers Clearinghouse, Readers Digest and American Family Publishers. And you don't need to send in those warranty cards on new products. You're covered under a manufacturer's warranty whether a card is returned or not. These cards are primarily used to gather names for mailing lists.
Are you receiving unwanted pre-approved credit cards and insurance offers? These companies get your name from the major credit bureaus. To have your name removed from these lists, call 888-567-8688.
The Direct Marketing Association represents many mail order sales companies. Listing your name with their mail preference service should stop about 75 percent of all national mailings coming to your home.
